Mo is a dad, a technology executive, and a three-term alder on Madison’s Common Council.
As Mayor, he will fight for a forward-focused economy that grows and diversifies Madison’s middle class because everyone deserves the opportunity to get ahead. Madison is growing and changing. Mo is committed to make Madison work for all of us by reducing inequality, improving education, and ensuring that this be a place that all residents can safely and affordably live.
Mo believes that the most meaningful change starts on the local level. He has the experience and the vision to shape a future for Madison that’s worthy of our next generation.
Mo started his career working with public schools all across our state to prepare our kids for the future. He and his wife quickly fell in love with Madison and are raising their family here. His love for this city prompted him to become a community advocate; first as a tutor at Madison Memorial High School, and later as the co-founder of a leadership training program for progressive millennials.
As an alder on the Madison Common Council, he represents one of the most diverse districts in the City of Madison. In what was the largest margin of victory in any contested aldermanic races in a generation, Mo was re-elected to his 3rd term in 2017 with 84% of the vote.
Mo has been named among the 25 Most Influential People in Greater Madison by In-Business-Magazine, and later that same year was named among the 28 Most Influential African Americans in Wisconsin by Madison365.
Mo earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University, and in 2016 was presented with the university's Outstanding Young Alumnus award. He has continued his education through executive coursework at the UW-Madison School of Business. He and his wife have a two year old daughter and three month old son.
