Elected Officials, Don't put Barack Obama's name on the City-County Jail Building.
It isn't surprising that people are looking for ways to honor President Barack Obama's legacy. At just 55 years of age, Barack Obama unquestionably has a legacy worth honoring already. And his legacy builds upon generations of honorable struggle and progress within the African-American experience.
However, today's City-County Building simply can't be on the table as an option.
The first black president’s name should not go on a government building whose jail inside is an insulting reminder of the stark racial inequalities that exist both locally and nationally.
Our community can do much more to live up to Barack Obama's vision through our actions, and we can set aside this renaming project.
Tell elected officials that President Barack Obama's legacy is not honored by being associated with a building with floors being used as a jail, and they need to rescind the idea. We care! Sign 👉
